Kids’ APT7 projects, including immersive installations, hands‑on activities and multimedia interactives, explored a range of contemporary ideas based on the themes of APT7. Kids’ APT7 featured works by Daniel Boyd (Australia), Tiffany Chung (Vietnam), Parastou Forouhar (Iran/Germany), Uji Handoko Eko Saputro (aka Hahan) (Indonesia), Roslisham Ismail (aka Ise) (Malaysia), Takahiro Iwasaki (Japan), Kwoma Arts (Papua New Guinea), Richard Maloy (New Zealand), Erbossyn Meldibekov (Kazakhstan), Paramodel (Japan), Tromarama (Indonesia) and Te Wei (China). As part of Kids’ APT7 and the 20‑Year Archive project, the Gallery also presented a collection of children’s drawings from this and past APT exhibitions. Children visiting APT7 had the opportunity to engage with a very special creature from the Asia Pacific region — Kids’ APT7 mascot Pong Pongan. The hermit crab, designed by Indonesian artist Hahan, acted as a guide for young visitors to the Gallery, and featured on children’s labels designed to introduce young visitors to APT7 art works. A large‑scale wall graphic depicting the cute crustacean also greeted visitors in the Children’s Art Centre foyer. More than 143 000 children visited APT7, representing almost a quarter of the overall attendance. As part of the Kids’ APT7 multimedia interactives, visitors took over 64 800 photographs for Erbossyn Meldibekov’s Family album: From Queensland to Kazakhstan project and created over 20 400 Farsi script animals using Parastou Forouhar’s Persian for kids multimedia activity. The support of Tim Fairfax, am , Gina Fairfax and the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation was crucial to realising Kids’ APT7, Kids’ APT7 on Tour, and the accompanying Hahan and Friends children’s publication. ‘APT7 allowed me to share contemporary art with my kids. The kids’ activities are really well resourced, maintained and explained by Gallery staff.’ APT7 VISITOR 29 kids’ apt7
