APT7 featured two major cinema programs, attracting over 6500 visitors. mouNtaiNs aNd waters: CHiNese aNimatioN siNCe tHe 1930s The landmark retrospective of Chinese animation, Mountains and Waters: Chinese Animation Since the 1930s featuring around 200 works of animation using techniques ranging from ink‑wash painting, shadow play and papercuts to puppetry and woodblock prints. This program profiled the work of early animation pioneers and contemporary artists and filmmakers participating in this extraordinary tradition. The program attracted a strong audience of 3188. Mountains and Waters included many important historical works from the collections of the China Film Archive, Beijing, and the Shanghai Animation Film Studio. Representatives of both institutions presented public programs during March 2013 at GOMA. Animation specialist Li Zhen from the China Film Archive introduced screenings and presented a lecture entitled ‘Creating Classics: The Golden Ages of Animation in China’. The presentation offered a rare insight into the Shanghai Animation Film Studio and the exquisite films created there from the 1950s onwards. CHaNge: patHs tHrougH 20 years of fiLm Including more than 80 films and video works by some of the most celebrated directors and contemporary artists from the Asia Pacific region, Change featured 90 public sessions and drew an audience of 3339. Change provided a snapshot of 20 years of filmmaking throughout the region, reaching from the Middle East across Asia to Australia and the Pacific, and explored themes of social, political and aesthetic transformation, as well as developments in moving‑image culture. ‘Recently, I saw a short film by the Chinese artist–filmmaker Sun Xun.
