APT7 Exhibition Report
in Print As the only major series of exhibitions to focus on the contemporary art of Asia, Australia and the Pacific, the accompanying APT exhibition publications are a major initiative by the Gallery under the auspices of the Australian Centre of Asia Pacific Art (ACAPA). Across 318 illustrated pages, making this the largest publication in the APT series, and featuring in‑depth scholarly writing by curators and specialists from diverse fields — including November Paynter, Martin Fowler, Peter Brunt, Joan Kee and Michael Wesley — The 7th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art emphasised the voice of each exhibiting APT7 artist while exploring the extraordinary artistic, social and economic changes that have taken place across Asia and the Pacific in the two decades since the inception of the APT series. The APT7 exhibition provided Australian audiences with rare access to art and ideas from some of the most dynamic regions in the world. It presented major new and recent works by more than 100 artists, collaborations and collectives from across Asia, the Pacific and Australia, and offered insights into cultural production in West and Central Asia and the Pacific. The substantial exhibition publication documented these, as well as the accompanying curated film programs, which profiled this 20‑year period of expanding film production and distribution throughout Asia; and the 13 artist projects that comprised Kids’ APT7. The December–February 2012–13 and March–May 2013 issues of Artlines , the Gallery’s quarterly magazine, featured APT7 artists’ works on the covers, as well as articles on the 20‑year history of 54 iN priNt
