APT7 Exhibition Report

‘Although a simple idea, the Memento mask o project opens up great opportunities for communication and production of knowledge for both the artist and the children.’ uJi HaNdoko eko saputro (AKA HaHaN ), APT7 ExHIBITING ARTIST the exhibition (by Blair French, Executive Director of Artspace in Sydney); on the APT7 exhibition project ‘0 – Now: Traversing West Asia’ co‑curated by November Paynter (by Sara Raza, currently Associate Director of Research and Programs at SALT in Istanbul); and texts by Gallery curators on the APT7 film programs Mountains and Waters: Chinese Animation Since the 1930s and Change: Paths Through 20 Years of Film. Articles on Kids’ APT7 and its touring program and APT7 acquisitions also featured. The 7th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art was available through the QAGOMA Store and its online service, and was also distributed nationally through Thames and Hudson Australia, with combined sales of 1870. HaHaN aNd frieNds QAGOMA’s Children’s Art Centre collaborated with emerging Indonesian artist Hahan (Uji Handoko Eko Saputro) to develop Hahan and Friends . The richly illustrated publication explores Hahan’s life and work and includes fun art‑making activities for children to complete at home or at school. Throughout Hahan and Friends , young readers are invited to collaborate with Hahan and share his passion for comic‑inspired art work. Hahan and Friends is the fifth children’s book published by the Gallery’s Children’s Art Centre and the first to focus solely on a contemporary Asian artist. The publication was a finalist for Best Designed Children’s Non‑Fiction Book in the 2013 Australian Publishers Association’s 61st Annual Book Design Awards. 55 iN priNt
