The Eighth Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art

Hetain Patel Born 1980, Bolton, UK Behind the Mask 2015 Using humour and imitation, Hetain Patel creates videos that examine language, physical movement and his heritage as a second-generation Indian migrant growing up in the UK. For APT8 Kids, the artist presents a series of photographs of children dressed as their favourite comic book characters. Displayed alongside these images, his two-channel video work The Jump 2015 shows the artist dressed as Spider-Man leaping off a couch in his grandmother’s living room. Children are invited to come to the Gallery dressed as superheroes and upload their photographs as part of a digital display. Rosanna Raymond Born 1967, Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand Play with Your Birds 2015 Rosanna Raymond’s art practice ranges from installation, spoken word and performance to body adornment. For APT8 Kids, she invites young visitors to engage with the tiputa, a type of garment originally created in Tahiti and widely used throughout the Pacific. Tiputa are made from tapa (barkcloth) and continue to be made for use in dance and ceremony. Drawing inspiration from a number of images, children can create their own tiputa using templates that can be embellished with rubbings of patterns, which are carved into various surfaces of the space.
