The Eighth Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art

Premier’s message The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk MP Premier of Queensland and Minister for the Arts The Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT) is the only recurring exhibition to focus exclusively on artists from Australia, Asia and the Pacific. This highly anticipated celebration opens a window onto our fascinating region, providing social and cultural insights into the many countries and identities in the Asia Pacific. The Queensland Government, as the Founding Supporter of the APT, has seen this exhibition grow in size and stature through seven iterations, attracting over 2.3 million visitors to revel in the work of 550 artists from 40 countries. One of Australia’s most valued arts events, it draws overseas and interstate visitors, with APT7 generating almost $27 million for the Queensland economy as a driver of cultural tourism in 2012–13. The APT has been crucial to the development of the Gallery’s world-class collection of art from the region, including the work of some of its most important and renowned artists. Its educational, children’s and touring components mean that more Queenslanders can enjoy and experience the APT. I acknowledge the sponsors and supporters who make this exhibition possible and congratulate the Gallery on the achievement of APT8. I would like to encourage all Queenslanders to embrace this home-grown exploration of the region and warmly welcome the artists and all other visitors who come to Brisbane for this outstanding cultural event.
