Known for his reflective and joyous depictions of Australia’s LGBTQI scene from the late 1970s and 80s through to the present, Yang’s photography is informed by the cultural and political pressures of growing up as a gay man from a Chinese immigrant family in north Queensland. Be among the first to see this exhibition at a relaxed afternoon viewing for Members and their guests. THE MOTORCYCLE: DESIGN, ART, DESIRE Thursday 3 December | 11.00am | Online via Zoom Join Michael O’Sullivan (Design Manager, QAGOMA, and Coordinating Curator of ‘The Motorcycle’) to learn more about GOMA’s world-exclusive exhibition showcasing the art, design and history of one of the most iconic objects of the last 150 years. Featuring more than 100 innovative and influential motorcycles from the 1860s to now, it considers the vehicle from the perspective of social history, popular culture, design and technology. COUNTDOWN TO APT10 Thursday 28 January | 11.00am | Online via Zoom The Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT) is the Gallery’s flagship contemporary art series. Every three years since 1993, the APT series has taken over QAGOMA with contemporary artworks, film programs, Children’s Art Centre projects, and dedicated programs of talks and workshops. Enabling the Gallery to develop expertise and partnerships in the region, the APT has also fostered the development of one of the world’s most significant collections of contemporary Asian and Pacific art. At the end of 2021, the Gallery will present the tenth iteration of APT. Join the APT curatorial team for a recap of the series to date and a look ahead to APT10. WILLIAM YANG: SEEING AND BEING SEEN Friday 26 February | 10.30am | Online via Zoom Join exhibition curator Rosie Hays (Associate Curator, Australian Cinémathèque) for advance insights into ‘William Yang: Seeing and Being Seen’ before it opens in March. This exhibition is a major survey of Yang’s work and will trace his career from documentary photography to explorations of cultural and sexual identities, to his depictions of landscape. He integrates a photographic practice with writing, video and performance. The exhibition will also present a newly commissioned spoken-word performance.
