Kids' APT - A collaboration
Ayaz Jokhio created an interactive based on his own portrait, repeated 99 times. Children were invited to dress Ayaz in different clothes he had hand-drawn for the project, which were produced as individual magnetic pieces. Participants could mix and match different traditional costumes, fashionable dresses, uniforms and even a Superman outfit — making us aware of the artist’s interest in the mystical practice of Sufism, in which many characters may exist within one person all at the same time. Even though my project was very direct and easy to understand, it was still loaded with multilayered concepts, ideas of identity, fashion and politics. This work toys with the idea of identity. There is also another element in this work, which I always enjoy — similarities and differences occurring at the same time and in the same thing. Ayaz Jokhio 29
